My own dearest Ruthy:
Well here we are at old New Orleans. I mailed you a note written on train upon
arrival. I expected mail here but did not find any. Perhaps there will be some in the
morning. Met Mr & Mrs William Halls, jr of Summit on train. They are returning from a 5
weeks stay in San Antonio. Six months before this trip they completed a circuit of the world
occupying two years. Just think what a snap loads of money and nothing to do but travel.
Still they are far from poorer than we. Neither chick nor child to comfort their old age or
give them a glimpse of the real joy of living.
I want to be in bed at 10 tonight and I want again to repeat the old sweet story — my
love for the best and sweetest girl in all the world, Ruthy Barrell Gray, and my constant
desire to make her as happy as Ruthy is sweet.
Close your eyes, Dearie, while I take you in my arms and we exchange some of
those soul kisses which we like so well.
Good night Sweet heart — kiss all the babies for me:
and accept a double portion of love and kisses for your own sweet self —
